St Norbert Catholic Church

this is where i’ll be going to mass while i’m home in California for the holidays

reblogging myself!

mass this morning was nice. the priest is awesome (eastern european, delightful) and there were a lot of old people there which, let’s be real, is always fun (because some of them still say the old responses which is funny). this parish is just a bike ride away and it’s Norbertine so like…perfect.

A Prayer for Great Lent

simplyorthodox:

O Almighty Lord, who hast made all created things in wisdom, and by Thine inexpressible providence and great goodness hast brought us to these all-holy days, for the purification of body and soul, for the controlling of carnal passions, and for the hope of the Resurrection… Enable us also, O Good One, to fight the good fight; to accomplish the course of the Fast; to preserve inviolate the Faith… to be accounted victors over sin; and uncondemned to attain unto and adore Thy Holy Resurrection. For blessed and glorified is Thine all-honorable and majestic Name: of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit: now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Prayer is warfare to the last breath

simplyorthodox:

I think there is no greater labor than that of prayer to God. For every time a man wants to pray, his enemies, the demons, want to prevent him, for they know that it is only by turning him from prayer that they can hinder his journey. Whatever good work a man undertakes, if he perseveres in it, he will attain rest. But prayer is warfare to the last breath.

And then there are moments such as this

when i vividly note the providence of God

the long and the short of it is that I, along with my partner in crime, Chris Leonard, will be leading a new Bible study at the Newman Center!

we’ve been talking about the great need for a Bible centered study (in lieu of only offering a life-group that goes through a different book each month) and many people we’ve spoken with about this agree wholeheartedly that the need is there/that they would be interested in joining. so this coming Tuesday, Chris and I will start by going through St. Paul’s Letter to the Romans.

i am so jazzed!
